Julie Plec (born May 26, 1972) is an American television producer and writer, known for her work on the CW television series The Vampire Diaries which she co-created with Kevin Williamson, and its spin-off The Originals, also the TV series Containment.
At around noon on Wednesday, Plec posted the following "joke" on Twitter after learning about the Amtrak train/garbage truck collision which involved Republican legislators and left one person dead:
A train full of Republicans runs into a truck full of garbage and the garbage says.....

The tweet has since been deleted, but that did not prevent other Twitter users from voicing their outrage at her insensitivity:
The White House released a statement earlier today saying the train that crashed was carrying House and Senate Republicans to a retreat in West Virginia. No members of Congress or their staff were injured.
The deceased victim's identity has not been released, but during a mid-day press conference, President Trump confirmed that the driver of the truck had been killed.
