A veteran has offered to take the place of Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) who said that she would not be attending President Donald Trump's State of the Union address later this month.

Waters last Friday told MSNBC's Joy Reid:

“Why would I take my time to go and sit and listen to a liar? To someone who lies in the face of facts, someone who can change their tune day in and day out. What does he have to say that I would be interested in?”

Ricky Taylor, who served two tours in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army, wrote on Twitter Monday night that he would “gladly” attend, making sure to “tell the President how much he means to myself, family, Military, and all of his supporters!”

Taylor claimed Waters likes to speak on behalf of all black people, but “there's so many Trump supporters out there that are minorities,” he said. “She doesn't speak for everybody; she surely doesn't speak for me.”

Taylor said he hasn't received a response from Waters's office.

“She does this for a publicity stunt. She does it to kind of pander to her audience,” Taylor claimed. “I just thought it was extremely disrespectful for her to say that about the president.”
