Hawaii To Conduct Emergency Nuclear Missile Siren Test On Friday

This Friday, Hawaii will test its emergency alert siren system across all eight islands in response to North Korea's recent ballistic missile launch.

Other tests will reportedly take place on the first business day of each month following Friday's initial test.

The warning system dates back to the Cold War era and was meant to notify residents they should "get inside, stay inside and stay tuned" in case of an immediate threat.

According to State Management Agency Administrator Vern Miyagi, North Korea's reckless behavior over the years has prompted island leaders to finally test out the old system.

"If anybody told me four or five months ago we would be doing this, I would have said you are crazy," Miyagi told USA Today. "But stuff happens."

Additionally, the state will also be broadcasting public service announcements (PSAs) and conducting community-based meetings for educational purposes.

Miyagi said Hawaiians should have two weeks worth of emergency provisions stored in their homes in case of an attack or natural disaster.
