Macron Wants To ‘Radically’ Change France’s Parliament

French President Emmanuel Macron said that he wanted to change the current status of French parliament, believing the legislature was previously “on the wrong track,” in an address at the Palace of Versailles Monday.
Macron, leader of the centrist party En Marche, wants to create a “radically new path” following the overwhelming success of his party in the presidential and parliamentary elections, reported the Strait Times.
Macron’s plan aims to reduce one-third of politicians in both houses of parliament, which he believes will have “positive effects on the general quality of parliamentary work.” He originally proposed the change during his presidential campaign and told lawmakers that if they failed to make the changes he would take it to the people in a referendum.
President Trump will meet with Macron in Paris to discuss US-French relations during the French national holiday Bastille Day, which takes place July 14th.
