Radicalized 12-Year-Old Syrian Refugee Girl Harasses Canadian Police And Makes 60 Phony 911 Calls

[Winnipeg, Canada] A young Syrian refugee, who recently relocated to Canada with her family after spending time in a refugee camp, was charged with assaulting a police officer and public mischief after both she and her sister placed 60 false and phony calls to 911 between July and August last year.

Officers eventually visited the young girl's home to investigate and were immediately harassed, both verbally and physically. The young 12-year-old refugee punched one of the policemen while his back was turned and tried to hit him a second time, but was stopped.

While being physically detained, she yelled, "I am going to work for ISIS. I hate you guys," and threatened to make false allegations that the police had "touched her." She also threatened to kill the officers.

She was ultimately sentenced to one year of probation and 75 hours of community service. She was also required to write apology letters to the police officers she harassed and assaulted.

During the hearing, her defense lawyer, Hillarie Tasche, said, "We know that she and her family went through some particularly difficult things in Syria. She has learned more and more that what she did was wrong and also that saying she wanted to work with ISIS was wrong because they were the very people that were trying to hurt her and her family."

Tasche additionally stated, "I hope that she has learned through this process that the police in Canada are there to help us and are not there to hurt us."

Murray Thompson, the judge who presided over the case, explained to the girl that fake 911 calls were "no joke" because they wrongly diverted emergency resources.

"The reason she spent 21 days in jail was because these were very serious charges," he said. "Even though she’s very young and she had a lot of trauma in her young life, and she’s new to this country, she knows that hitting a police officer is wrong."
