What Is Operation Gotham Shield 2017?

[New York] Between April 24th thru May 5th, officials from local, state and federal organizations will commence Operation Gotham Shield 2017.

The organizations involved are:

• City of New York Office of Emergency Management

• State of New Jersey Office of Emergency Management

• State of New York Office of Emergency Management

• U.S. Department of Defense (DOD)

• U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)

• U.S. Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO)

• U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)

• U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

• U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM)

This operation will simulate a nuclear detonation along the U.S. - Canada border in both New York and New Jersey.

During the exercise, four (simulated) nuclear devices will be involved. Two of them will be deactivated and rendered safe, while the other two will "detonate" in the NYC / NJ area, along the U.S. Canadian border. One of the devices that "detonates successfully" will hold a 10kt payload.
